Cover Letter

Applying for Email Designer

Dear Fat Earth Media Team,

The designer in me wishes I could send this cover letter as an actual marketing email.

This is the next best thing.

I believe the inbox is still one of the most valuable places a brand can earn someone's attention. While algorithms change and social feeds become increasingly crowded, email remains one of the few channels where thoughtful design, compelling storytelling, and intentional messaging can create an experience worth opening.

Every visual decision, from typography and hierarchy to pacing, motion, and calls to action—has a job to do. Great email design isn't just about decorating a message, it's about creating a purposeful and meaningful experience for the reader that aligns with the business’s goal.

My experience

Over the past five years, I've grown from a Junior Graphic Designer to a Senior Graphic Designer on the marketing team at WD Partners through adaptability, curiosity, and a genuine desire to keep learning.

My work spans websites, social campaigns, integrated marketing campaigns, pitch presentations, brand identities, motion graphics, and thought leadership content. Working across so many channels has taught me to think beyond individual deliverables and instead focus on creating cohesive marketing experiences.

Alongside my full-time role, I've continued taking on freelance projects that challenge me to learn new tools, explore different industries, and strengthen my strategic thinking.

Why email?

Although I've worked across nearly every marketing channel, email has become one of my favorites because it sits at the intersection of storytelling, strategy, and measurable performance.

At WD Partners, I've designed reusable templates and campaign layouts for our Discovery email series, translating thought leadership and industry insights into engaging, easy-to-scan experiences. I've also created automated email templates triggered by specific website interactions, requiring thoughtful consideration of user journeys, messaging hierarchy, and clear calls to action.

Those projects reinforced something I love about email: every element should earn its place.

One last thing…

I love that your team partners with a diverse range of clients, using thoughtful design to solve real marketing challenges rather than simply producing beautiful creative. Just as exciting is the collaborative nature of the role. Throughout my career, my favorite projects have been the ones where designers, writers, marketers, strategists, and developers come together to build something stronger than any one person could create alone. I'd love the opportunity to contribute to that kind of environment.

My online portfolio doesn't currently showcase my email work, but I'd be happy to share additional email templates and campaign examples upon request.

I hope this page gives you a small glimpse into how I think about design—not just as something that looks good, but as something that solves problems, earns attention, and creates meaningful results.

Thank you for opening this message.

Warmly,

Madeline Flagg
